General Assembly of CEDAC Organic Vegetable Producer Group

CEDAC, in  cooperation with  the Deutsche Gesellschaft für  Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ  – formerly DED) organized the annual assembly of organic vegetable producer groups on 13-14 December, 2012, at the Diamond Hotel in Kampot province. 56 key farmers from four provinces including Kampon Chhnang, Kampong Speu, Kampot, and Takeo, attended the assembly.
The objectives of the assembly were to:
•    Share successful experiences and achievements
•    Discuss future plans for becoming a professional vegetable producer
•    Learn about the process and the importance of the internal control system (ICS)

During the assembly, the vegetable farmers shared their experiences and the achievements, particularly regarding managing insects, and calculating and selling products. Then, Dr. Yang Saing Koma, President
of  CEDAC,  gave  a presentation on  preparing  future  plans  for  becoming  a  professional  vegetable producer. He remarked that there is a huge potential for farmers to make higher profits with their produce,
especially as  a  professional  vegetable  producer.  Next, Mr.  Makarady,  CEDAC Program  Director, discussed the internal controlling system (ICS), which needs to be applied to all farms to guarantee quality for inspectors before products can be supplied to the market.
With high demand and trust from consumers, farmers need to work harder to improve both the quantity and quality of their products and to ensure that organic vegetable are available in the market at all times.
As a result, key farmers gained knowledge about the importance of ICS and new market opportunities that it can open. They learned how to make clear future plans, commit to being professional vegetable producer and to work harder in producing more vegetable to supply to the market.
