CEDAC hosts a visit and conference on its organic rice business
On April 29th 2013, CEDAC organized a Press Conference together with the Rural Development Bank (RDB) of Cambodia at its Rice Mill Cooperative (RMC) in Phnom Penh. Around 50 people attended the visit, including farmer representatives, CEDAC staff members, RDB officers, local authority officers, journalists and representatives of different organizations.
In his opening speech, Dr. Yang Saing Koma, President of CEDAC, introduced the work of CEDAC SAHAKREAS as well as the necessity of Cambodian agriculture to increasingly focus on organic rice business. Dr. Yang Saing Koma went on thanking His Excellency Son Koun Thor, Chairman and CEO of the Rural Development Bank of Cambodia for his support and attending the conference.
H.E. Son Koun Thor then addressed the audience by emphasizing the importance of CEDAC’s work and confirmed that the Royal Government of Cambodia is aware of the organization’s impact on shaping the country’s agriculture in positive ways. “This is especially true as the availability of clean and healthy food is increasingly becoming a concern among Cambodians,” he said. H.E. further indicated the possibility of support by the Rural Development Bank to help CEDAC achieving its ambitious Rice Mill Cooperative Program.
Following His Eminence’s Speech, farmer representatives shared their experience on working with CEDAC. They especially mentioned the positive effect of SRI and organic rice business to their communities and livelihoods development. Dr. Yang Sang Koma and H.E. Son Koun Thor finally opened the floor for journalists and the audience to ask questions. The event was concluded by informal discussions between the audience and representatives while everyone enjoyed a selection of organic fruits provided by CEDAC farmers.
