Quality of CEDAC Rice Verified by European Lab, Increasing the Number of Export Markets
Rice produced by CEDAC-affiliated farmers is gaining more accolades and recognitions of quality. After winning three prizes for quality and taste at the 2013 Cambodian Rice Exports Forum in October, CEDAC Sahakreas rice was verified for both its quality and organic status by Eurofins Global Control, a Luxembourg-based leader in the food and biopharma product testing industry. Genetic and organic testing was conducted at the request of Van Sillevoldt Rijst BV, a Dutch private label supplier of tailor-made natural rice solutions for the European retail and food industries.
The lab tests, conducted in October 2013, verified that not only is CEDAC jasmine rice on par with Thai jasmine rice varieties, but that its residue levels for pesticides and chemical inputs meet the requirements for organic labeling for the EU market.  CEDAC Sahakreas, CEDAC NGO’s commercial partner for coordinating the sale and export of organic rice produced by CEDAC target farmers, already has customers in the United States (Lotus Foods), Germany (El-Puente) and Vietnam. With this latest validation and CEDAC’s new partnership with Mekong Oryza Trading (MOT), CEDAC Sahakreas is poised to enter new markets in Asia and Europe. To meet rising demand, CEDAC is working with rural communities to build district level rice mills. CEDAC expects 100 mills to be operation by 2022, producing over 20,000 tons of quality organic rice per year.
